Welcome to Brussels tournament!

The Belgian Go Federation held the 28th Brussels Go Tournament with European Go Players.
Only 47 players participated (there was another tournament in Europe at the same time, so very few players participated and no 6 dan was present).
Players from the top group (above 3D) came from France, England and The Czech Republic.
The place was Palais du Midi, which was near a metro station and very calm for playing.

Marie spoke about the Go rules (who stand on the right corner)

In total five rounds with 60 minutes of thinking time plus a byo-yomi of 15 stones in 5 minutes were played. Japanese rules were used so the Komi was 6.5 points.

The players had the chance to have review lesson with two women Go professional who came from south Korea. The Korean Go Federation dispatched 2 persons to give a lesson in Brussels: Lee Young-Sin 5P and Yoon Young-Min 3P came to Belgium for Brussels Go tournament.
On the 25th of October, they gave us a nice lesson and simultaneous games in Leuven.

Closing ceremony

Zhang Yuan-Bo 4D won the 28th Brussels tournament: he got a 1st prize and Ecup points at the same time. He is a Chinese from Taiwan who is studying in UK and he has a family in Belgium.
He usually stands up during his games and plays very long games. On the 3rd round, almost all games finished before 8 o'clock except Zhang Yuan-Bo game that finished around 9 o'clock.
He won all five games and got the first place without doubt.
Antoine Fenech 5D took the 2nd place and Benjamin Blanchard 3D took a 3rd place, they are both from France this year.

Tombola starts!

The Belgian Go Federation offered some prize money to the top 5 Go players (Prizes for top places were determined by the number of points and the SOS. Prizes were divided equally if the number of points and the SOS is equal)
Also prizes were guaranteed for all the players with 4 or 5 wins.
The youngest player was Oscar who is 10years old and came from Spain.
He said that he came to Belgium to live and he wants to become a strong 1D.
There was a tombola consisting of 10 euro coupons to buy Go books for all pre-registered players
I hope professional player will come again for Brussels Go tournament next year.
It will be a good chance for lots of players to come to Brussels and have a good atmosphere.
Many thanks to the Korean Go Federation and to the 2 professional players who came to Belgium this year.
